I am on my way to Italy and boy has this packing thing been a stressful experience. The Italians are known for their effortless style. It’s just part of who they are and how they express themselves.
After lots of research, I have come up with a few tips to share with you on packing for those stylish destinations.
Before you pack, you need to ask yourself these three questions:
1. What is the weather going to be like? I’m going in Spring, which means it could be sunshine, rain or somewhere in between. That means layering. It’s not an easy one, but totally doable with the use of tops, leggings, scarves, a hat and a travel raincoat.
2. What will I be doing? I’m going to be walking a lot. We are going from Milan to the wine regions of Tuscany to the city of Florence and the Cinque Terra. That means comfort, but with city style. I’m also going to be doing a filming series on where to shop in Italy, so messy hair, super casual clothing and no makeup is not an option. Eeeek…all of this and I need to pack light!
3. What look do I want to create? Now this is important. It will mean you can pack only what you need and not your whole wardrobe. I want to be comfortable, stylish and appropriately dressed wherever I go.
I’m renting a car, so I don’t need to limit myself to a carry on. I also want space in my suitcase to bring back a few things. I’ll wear my heaviest layers on the plain. I’ve limited my packing to two pairs of jeans, two dresses, two skirts and 7 tops. Importantly, I have two scarves (Italians are big on scarves), a fedora sun hat for rain or sun, several pairs of leggings, two pairs of flat shoes and a fold up raincoat. To ensure I can walk the Cinque Terra I have a pair of leggings, running shoes and two cotton tees.
