About the video
My series on how to dress when you are short continues and in this video I focus on what to wear on a night out.
Going out in the evening is a great time to dress up a little or a lot for a special occasion or event. Instead of resorting to wearing all black in hope it’s going to make you look taller, here are some tips on how to dress yourself tall for the evening.
The same basic principles apply as those I’ve mentioned in previous videos, so if you have missed those, go take a look at the playlist.
Although, my rule of thumb is always to define your waist, as this makes your legs look longer. Remember, your waist is not your tummy, it is higher up. It’s your narrowest point.
Here are a few outfit ideas and some tips to help you create your fabulous outfits.
Wear high-waisted pants: This automatically makes your legs look longer and you can wear shorter tops. If you don’t want to show so much skin, layer with a lace body stocking, which adds texture and interest to your look.
If you want to wear all black you can mix your textures for interest and add pops of color. This will still keep one long elongated line without being too boring.
Wear shorter dresses in nipped in the waist style. If you don’t like your legs, you can wear leggings or tights. If you really don’t like your legs, wear your dress length just below your knee with a nude shoe. This will elongate your legs immediately.
Velvet wrap dress
Asymmetrical hems are fabulous. The deceive the eye and it can make your legs look longer. This also allows you to wear longer lengths without being swamped with fabric. Here are two examples.
